Perla del Mar traces its roots to 1905, when four Cuban brothers began hand-rolling cigars from tobacco grown on their family's farm. They named the brand “Pearl of the Sea” for the Caribbean waters surrounding Cuba. As demand grew, the Perfecto Garcia brothers built a large factory beside J.C. Newman's El Reloj factory in Ybor City, and Perla del Mar became a leading premium name of the early twentieth century.

J.C. Newman revived the brand to honor that history. The modern box-pressed cigars are handmade at its PENSA factory in Estelí with aged binder and long-filler tobaccos from Pueblo Nuevo, La Reina, Condega, and Jalapa. Ecuadorian Shade, Connecticut Broadleaf, and Ecuadorian Corojo wrappers give the collection distinct expressions while preserving its balanced Nicaraguan core.
